Ericeira to Praia de São Lourenço

Varied and easy, the run follows coastal flow trails north of the fishing town of Ericeira along a string of beaches to Praia de São Lourenço. Retracing part of the track to feast on the spectacular cliff-top views, the route continues inland along a beautiful, hidden trail through a lush creek valley circling back to town. Carpets of bright pink wildflowers were the most memorable sight running the route in spring.

Cobbled streets take us from the sheltered fishing harbor and beach in the center of Ericeira to the exposed ruins of Fort Milreu with sweeping ocean views. Wooden walkways make the steep descent to surfer’s favorite Praia Ribeira d’ Ilhas comfortable and easy.

Across a creek, beyond the beach, a beautiful, lonely flow trail leads trough riots of wild flowers after a steep climb back up to the cliff top. It continues to remote, tiny Praia dos Coxos and on to our destination, where is possible to turn around at anytime, as the run retraces its steps to the surfer’s beach before veering inland.

A narrow trail meanders through a creek valley and over hills for perfect trail-running fun. Air-freshening eucalypt trees and dense vegetation finally give way to the outskirts of Ericeira after a hidden river crossing.
